100g Gold Seized from Outbound Passenger at Benapole

Benapole: Customs officials seized two gold bars, weighing a total of 100 grammes, from an outbound passenger at the Benapole International Check Post.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the seizure was made around 6:00pm on Wednesday after customs officials, acting on a tip-off, intensified surveillance in the passenger departure area of the check post. The passenger, identified as Md Mobarak Hossain, was stopped on suspicion while preparing to cross into India.

During initial questioning, he admitted that he was carrying two gold bars weighing 50 grammes each. Customs officials later recovered the bars from inside a mini wallet concealed in a tissue packet kept in the back pocket of his trousers.

The recovered gold weighed a total of 100 grammes and was estimated to be worth around Tk 16.98 lakh. The seized gold bars were deposited in the valuable goods warehouse of Benapole Customs House, while the accused was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after completion of the required legal formalities.

A case has been filed under the Customs Act, 2023 and other relevant laws over the alleged attempt to smuggle gold bars from Bangladesh to India.
