Dhaka: A total of 7,584 road accidents occurred across the country in 2025, leading to 7,359 deaths and 16,476 injuries, according to the annual report of the Road Safety Foundation (RSF).
According to United News of Bangladesh, among the deceased, 962 were women, accounting for 13.07 percent, while 1,008 were children, representing 13.69 percent of the total fatalities, as stated by the RSF in a media release on Saturday afternoon. The report was compiled using data from nine national daily newspapers, seven online news portals, electronic media, and the organization’s own sources.
The capital city recorded 409 road accidents, resulting in 219 deaths and 511 injuries. Of the fatalities in Dhaka, 176 were men (80.36 percent), 25 women (11.41 percent), and 18 children (8.21 percent). Nationwide, 3,029 motorcycle accidents resulted in 2,671 deaths, which is 36.29 percent of the total road fatalities, with motorcycle incidents accounting for 39.93 percent of the total accidents.
Furthermore, 1,564 pedestrians were killed, representing 21.25 percent of the total deaths, while drivers and helpers accounted for 941 fatalities or 12.78 percent. The report also highlighted 132 waterway accidents, which caused 149 deaths, 123 injuries, and 34 missing persons, alongside 519 railway accidents that resulted in 478 deaths and 152 injuries.
In Dhaka, pedestrians represented 47.03 percent of the fatalities, followed by motorcycle riders and passengers at 43.37 percent. Drivers and passengers of buses, rickshaws, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and other vehicles made up 9.58 percent of the deaths.
