Colombo: The 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was commemorated yesterday at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo. The event was marked by the presence of the Chief Guest, Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, Hon. (Dr) Upali Pannilage, along with Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd).
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, H.E. Qi Zhenhong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka, addressed the gathering, reflecting on the sacrifices made by those who resisted fascism eight decades ago. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding peace for future generations during his speech.
The ceremony was also a platform to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and China. The event
was attended by former presidents, senior ministers, and members of the diplomatic corps, highlighting the significance of the occasion.
