Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) Appointed as Acting Minister of Defence

Colombo: Acting ministers have been appointed for four key ministries, with the President’s departure for the United Arab Emirates today to attend the World Governments Summit 2025.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, in the President’s absence, temporary ministerial appointments have been made for the Ministry of Digital Economy, the Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, all of which fall under his purview. Additionally, an acting minister has been appointed for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, currently overseen by Minister Vijitha Herath, who is accompanying the President on the official visit.

Accordingly, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne has been appointed as Acting Minister of Digital Economy. Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) has been appointed as Acting Minister of Defence. Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dr. Anil Jayanta Fernando
has been appointed as Acting Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. Deputy Minister of Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra has been appointed as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.
