Dhaka: The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to resume on Friday, January 16, 2026, following a successful late-night negotiation between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the players. This agreement effectively ends the boycott that had stalled the tournament on Thursday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the breakthrough was announced by BPL Governing Council Member Secretary Iftekhar Rahman and Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) President Mohammad Mithun. The announcement came after a crucial meeting held at the BCB office in Gulshan.
Cricketers participated in the discussions with board officials and franchise representatives, with negotiations commencing around 10:30 PM to finalize the terms of the agreement.
To make up for the lost day of play, the tournament schedule has been revised. The matches that were abandoned on Thursday-Noakhali Express vs. Chattogram Royals and Rajshahi Warriors vs. Sylhet Titans-are now set to take place on Friday at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM, respectively. As a result, Friday’s originally scheduled games have been moved to Saturday, and Saturday’s fixtures have been shifted to January 18.
Additionally, the dates for the Eliminator and Qualifier-1 have been postponed to January 20, though the final will still occur on its initially planned date.
The standoff originated from offensive remarks made by BCB Director M Nazmul Islam concerning player funding. Initially, players demanded his resignation and a public apology. However, the decision to resume the tournament follows the board’s action to remove him from his position as chair of the Finance Committee.
