Dhaka: The Ambassadors of Russia, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark convened with BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman at his office in Gulshan, Dhaka, to discuss bilateral interests and explore ways to enhance future ties between their respective countries and Bangladesh.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the envoys from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark initiated the meeting with Tarique Rahman around 11:00 am, followed by a separate meeting with the Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander Grigoryevich Khozin. The gatherings were attended by BNP Joint Secretary General Humayun Kabir, Chairman’s Advisory Council member Dr. Mahdi Amin, Press Secretary Saleh Shibly, and BNP International Affairs Secretary Rashedul Haq.

Humayun Kabir, briefing reporters post-meetings, described the interactions as courtesy calls focusing on national interests, including strengthening bilateral relations. He highlighted international interest in Tarique Rahman’s leadership and vision for Bangladesh’s development. Discussions included top
ics such as trade, investment, energy, education, and the implementation of BNP’s proposed 31-point reform program, contingent on securing a public mandate in the upcoming February 12 election.

The envoys expressed interest in Bangladesh’s electoral process, hoping for a democratic transition. Although no detailed election discussions occurred, both the people of Bangladesh and the international community remain hopeful for a free, fair, and credible election, marking a significant step toward democratic restoration after 17 years. The meetings were characterized as introductory and cordial, with no discussions on defense equipment or technical issues. Humayun Kabir emphasized the international community’s focus on Tarique Rahman since his political return on December 25.
