Chandpur: After the withdrawal of nominations for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, a total of 35 candidates, including one woman, are contesting five parliamentary seats across Chandpur’s eight upazilas. Among them, each seat has a single BNP-nominated candidate. There is one Jamaat-e-Islami candidate in three constituencies, while in the remaining two seats, the LDP candidate represents the 10-party alliance. The district returning officer’s office provided this information about the contesting candidates on Tuesday, the last day for nomination withdrawals.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the candidates for the five seats are as follows: In Chandpur-1 (Kachua Upazila), the contenders include A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon from BNP, Abu Nasar Mohammad Makbul Ahmed from Jamaat-e-Islami, Habib Khan from Jatiya Party, Md. Enayet Hossain from Gana Adhikar Parishad, Md. Nasir Uddin from Bangladesh Islami Front, and Md. Azad Hossain from Ganoforum.
In Chandpur-2 (Matlab North and South Upazi
las), the candidates are Dr. Md. Jalal Uddin from BNP, Md. Billal Hossain from the 10-party alliance (LDP), Mansur from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Md. Emran Hossain Mia from Jatiya Party, Md. Faizunnur from Bangladesh Republican Party, Md. Golap Hossain from Gana Adhikar Parishad, Nasima Naznin Sarkar from Bangladesh Labour Party, and Md. Enamul Haque from Nagorik Oikko Parishad.
For Chandpur-3 (Sadar Upazila – Haimchar), the candidates are Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik from BNP, Md. Shahjahan Mia from Jamaat-e-Islami, Md. Zainal Abedin Sheikh from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Selim Akbar from Ganoforum, Md. Zakir Hossain from Gana Adhikar Parishad, A.H.M. Ahsan Ullah from Bangladesh Islami Front, and Md. Jahangir Hossain from Bangladesh Communist Party.
The candidates in Chandpur-4 (Faridganj) include Md. Harunur Rashid from BNP, Md. Billal Hossain Miazi from Jamaat-e-Islami, Mahmud Alam from Jatiya Party, Makbul Hossain from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, M.A. Hannan as an Independent (BNP leader denied nomination),
Md. Munir Chowdhury from Ganoforum, Abdul Malek Bulbul from Bangladesh Islami Front, and Zakir Hossain as an Independent.
In Chandpur-5 (Hajiganj-Shahrasti), the candidates are Md. Mominul Haque from BNP, Md. Neyamul Bashir from the 10-party alliance (LDP), Mohammad Ali Patwari from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Mirza Gias Uddin from Jatiya Party, Syed Bahadur Shah Mujaddeddi from Islamic Front Bangladesh, and Md. Mahmud Hasan Nayon from Insaniyat Biplob Bangladesh.
Voters across the district, comprising a total of 2,285,005 registered individuals with nearly 1,108,385 female voters, have expressed that the election will be a tough contest primarily between BNP and Jamaat. The district has been equipped with 700 polling stations and 4,264 polling booths to facilitate the voting process.
