Mymensingh: Two people lost their lives, and at least 10 others sustained injuries when a mini-bus overturned on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. The incident took place on Thursday evening near Sultana Garments in the Mehrabari area of the upazila.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the accident happened around 7:30 pm. The deceased have been identified as Anik Mia, a 32-year-old bus helper from Jagannathdia village in Ghior, Manikganj, and Shahjan Siraji, a 40-year-old resident of Birunia village in Bhaluka.

Eyewitnesses and police reported that the mini-bus, traveling towards the highway, lost control and overturned near Sultana Garments, resulting in the immediate death of Shahjan Siraji. The incident severely injured the driver, helper, and at least 12 passengers.

Emergency responders from Bhaluka Fire Service and Veradoba Highway Police transported the injured to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex. Upon arrival, doctors pronounced Anik Mia dead. The bus driver, who was critically injured, has been referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for further treatment, while other injured individuals continue to receive care at the Upazila Health Complex.

ABM Mehedi Masud, officer-in-charge of Veradoba Highway Police Station, stated that the authorities have recovered the bodies and seized the mini-bus. Legal proceedings are set to begin before the bodies are returned to the families.
