Hatiya: BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday cautioned party leaders and activists about a possible plot to disrupt the February-12 election, urging them to stay vigilant to prevent any manipulation of the results. Over the past 15 to 16 years, many had been unable to exercise their right to vote due to restrictions on voting rights and freedom of speech. Those responsible for these actions have since left the country, but another group is allegedly plotting to create obstacles to the election.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Tarique made these remarks while virtually addressing an election rally in Hatiya, Noakhali, in support of BNP candidate Mahbubur Rahman Shamim in the Noakhali-6 constituency. He advised Muslims to perform Tahajjud prayers and then go to their respective polling stations early on February 12 to offer Fajr prayers there in congregation. He encouraged all voters, regardless of their religion, to arrive early and ensure their votes are cast and counted properly.
Tarique emphasized the importance of unity among all communities, regardless of caste, creed, or religion, for the betterment of the country. He expressed his hope to meet his supporters in person soon and pledged a series of development initiatives for Hatiya if BNP wins the election. He highlighted the necessity of victory for the BNP’s symbol, the Sheaf of Paddy, to address local problems effectively.
The BNP leader outlined plans to combat river erosion, provide permanent land settlements for the landless, and upgrade health facilities. Additionally, he proposed developing Jajamara Union into a new Upazila and transforming Nijhum Island into a modern tourist destination. He addressed the critical issues facing the region, such as shortages of safe drinking water, inadequate health services, and limited educational facilities.
Tarique also mentioned plans to introduce a family card to empower women economically and a farmer card to supply essential agricultural resources. He proposed setting up vocational institutes for training youths and providing loans to help them start businesses or seek employment abroad. He concluded by calling on voters to ensure the victory of the Sheaf of Paddy on February 12, as it would be crucial in solving the region’s problems.
