Dhaka: The Bangladesh Dairy Development Board is set to establish branch offices at strategic locations throughout the nation to enhance milk and dairy production and elevate quality standards, announced Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter on Monday. Farida highlighted the necessity of pinpointing major dairy production hubs and creating an effective manpower structure to implement the board’s objectives efficiently.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Farida Akhter made these statements while chairing the inaugural meeting of the dairy development governing board. This board was created under the Bangladesh Dairy Development Board Act, 2023, and the meeting took place at the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry conference room. She underscored the importance of dairy as a balanced nutrition source and stressed the board’s role in increasing production, setting quality standards, marketing dairy products, and managing related activities.
Farida emphasized the need for the Dairy Development Board’s activities to extend beyond its headquarters and reach across the country to ensure the availability of safe milk and dairy products. She added that regular board meetings are crucial for the law’s effective implementation.
The meeting was attended by Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Abu Tahir Muhammed Zaber, who acted as the board’s vice-chairman. The secretary revealed that Joint Secretary Shahina Ferdousi has been appointed as the Executive Director of the board by the Ministry of Public Administration and will also function as the board’s member secretary.
The convened meeting aimed to approve vital decisions necessary for executing the board’s functions as outlined by the law. Additionally, board members discussed initiating extensive publicity and awareness campaigns to educate stakeholders and the public about the Dairy Development Board’s activities, expressing unanimous support for the initiative.
