Moscow: Sri Lankan Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), currently on an official visit to the Russian Federation, engaged in strategic discussions with Russian Deputy Defence Minister, Mr. Vasily Osmakov, in Moscow on May 26. The meeting took place during the Defence Secretary’s participation in the 1st International Forum on Security and the Annual Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues, scheduled from May 26 to 29 in Moscow.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the discussions focused on addressing regional and global security challenges while emphasizing the significance of continued cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation. Key areas of cooperation include military-technical collaboration, capacity-building initiatives, and enhanced training exchanges between the two nations. The officials also discussed matters related to former Sri Lankan military personnel currently serving in the Russian Federation.
