Polonnaruwa: The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd.), presided over a Public Day Programme in Polonnaruwa on 27 June. This event was designed to allow retired military personnel, their families, and local citizens to voice their concerns and grievances directly to the Deputy Minister.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the programme acted as a crucial forum for retired members of the Tri-Forces, their relatives, and community members to engage in discussions with the Deputy Minister about various issues, including welfare, pensions, healthcare, housing, and public services. These interactions aimed to address service-related concerns and enhance the support provided to these groups.
During the programme, the Deputy Minister listened to the participants’ concerns and instructed the relevant officials to address these issues promptly, within the scope of existing legal and administrative guidelines. He emphasized the Government’s dedication to supporting the welfare o
f retired Tri-Forces members and ensuring that the concerns of all citizens are addressed efficiently through a responsive public service.
The event also saw the participation of the Deputy Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, Mr. T. B. Sarath, along with Members of Parliament representing the Polonnaruwa District, officials from the Polonnaruwa Pradeshiya Sabha, senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, and other pertinent government bodies.
