Dhaka: Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal on Saturday called on all stakeholders to work together to strengthen the rule of law, emphasizing that the legal community has consistently stood for justice and against injustice. He made these remarks during an exchange of views with members of the Bagerhat District Bar Association at its auditorium.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Deputy Speaker expressed that while a democratic system of governance has been established in the country, the next significant challenge is ensuring the rule of law, urging collective efforts towards this goal. He highlighted past incidents where individuals faced harassment due to their political beliefs and were denied constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights.
Kayser Kamal paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the July uprising, urging efforts to build the Bangladesh envisioned by the fallen. He emphasized that the sacrifices made during the 2024 mass uprising were for a better Bangladesh, and it is a responsibility to fulfill that aspiration. He also warned against past practices where some allegedly used bar associations and the legal system for personal gain, stressing the importance of maintaining legal norms.
The Deputy Speaker underlined the necessity of close cooperation between the bench and the bar to ensure justice, stating that the rule of law can only be firmly established through their joint efforts. The meeting was chaired by Bar Association Convener Advocate Md Mahfuzur Rahman Lahu and attended by other notable figures, including Bagerhat Zila Parishad Administrator Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain and former Bar Association President Advocate Wahiduzzaman Dipu.
Earlier, Kayser Kamal inaugurated the Skill Institute of Technology (Skill IT), a vocational training centre, opposite the Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner’s Office. He emphasized the importance of developing a skilled workforce to meet future needs. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including former secretary Dr Md Faridul Islam and Bagerhat District BNP Convener ATM Akram Hossain Talim.
Following the inauguration, the Deputy Speaker distributed 2,000 fruit-bearing and medicinal plant saplings among local residents and students. Later in the afternoon, he visited the free medical service and vocational training programmes run by the Latif Master Foundation in Beshargati area of Bagerhat Sadar upazila.
