Dhaka: Members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have apprehended a man in connection with the fraudulent online sale of tickets for an upcoming concert by renowned Pakistani singer Atif Aslam. The arrest took place in the Malibagh area of the capital city.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Md Bakhtiar Abid Khan, was the administrator of the Facebook group ‘Bangladesh Concert and Event Connects (BCEC).’ A CID press release issued on Saturday confirmed his arrest following a raid in Malibagh’s Chowdhuripara area, which also led to the seizure of an iPhone set.

The concert, organized by Event Sajai and Main Stage Inc, is scheduled to take place on July 24 at the 300 Feet Cricketers Academy in Purbachal. Ticket sales promotion kicked off on July 8 via the event organizers’ Facebook page, following an agreement with GetMyTicket.live.

Nisha Mahbuba Salam, one of the event organizers, lodged a formal complaint after discovering fraudulent activities. The complaint revealed that the BCEC Facebook group was being used to circulate images of tickets from a previously cancelled concert to falsely advertise and sell tickets for the upcoming event.

The group’s administrator allegedly demanded Tk 1,00,000 to remove the misleading posts. He is accused of threatening to continue endorsing such content, potentially causing financial harm and reputational damage to the organizing entities, Event Sajai and Main Stage Inc, if his demands were not met.

A case has been registered under the Cyber Security Act, 2026, at Paltan Police Station. During preliminary questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to his role as the BCEC Facebook group administrator, operating under the account name ‘Ak Abid Khan,’ as stated in the CID release.
