2 Ex-Ministers, 2 Ex-MPs Among 275 Chargesheeted in Chandpur July Uprising Case


Chandpur: Police have submitted a charge sheet against 275 individuals, including former ministers Dr. Dipu Moni and Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, as well as two former lawmakers, in connection with a case filed over incidents of attacks, vandalism, and explosions during the July-August 2024 student-people’s movement in Chandpur.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the charge sheet also names Dr. Dipu Moni’s brother and district Awami League vice-president Dr. J R Wadud Tipu, former Chandpur-1 (Kachua) MP Dr. Selim Mahmud, and former Chandpur-2 (Matlab North and South) MP Advocate Nurul Amin Ruhul. This marks the first charge sheet submitted in any of the cases filed in relation to the student-people’s movement in Chandpur, as stated by Officer-in-Charge of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station Foyez Ahmed.



The case records indicate that 350 individuals were originally named in the first information report, with an additional 250 listed as unidentified accused. Sub-Inspector Md Nurul Alam, the investigation officer on the case, mentioned that three of the named accused have died. “After verification and scrutiny during the investigation, a charge sheet was finally submitted against 275 people,” he said.



The case was officially filed at Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station on August 27, 2024, by Moktar Ahmed Patwari, the son of late Abdul Jalil Patwari from Patwari Bari in the Nayani Lakshmipur area of Haimchar.
