Patgram: Repair work on the flood-damaged Dahagram-Angarpota main road in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat began on Friday after the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) facilitated the entry of trucks carrying construction materials through the Tin Bigha Corridor.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Osman Gani, Sub-Assistant Engineer of the Lalmonirhat Roads and Highways Department, confirmed that repair work commenced on Friday morning. This development follows an incident on Thursday morning when a significant portion of the paved road in the Srishtiyarpar area collapsed. The collapse was caused by floodwaters resulting from a surge in the Teesta River, originating upstream in India, which washed away part of the road.

The resulting damage created a 10-foot-deep crater, severing communication for at least 2,000 families in the region. In response, the Lalmonirhat Roads and Highways Department initiated emergency repair work, sending trucks loaded with sand and other necessary materials. However, progress was temporarily halted when the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) stopped the trucks as they attempted to cross the Tin Bigha Corridor.

BGB sources revealed that the force coordinated with the BSF, emphasizing the severe hardship faced by residents and the pressing need to restore the road. Following this request, the BSF permitted the trucks carrying essential repair materials to enter Dahagram, thereby enabling the repair work to proceed.
