Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Sunday fixed November 30 for the cross-examination of actress Pori Moni in a case filed in connection with an attempted rape and murder charge. Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 Court, Shahadat Hossain, set the new date as Pori Moni could not reach the court on time for her cross-examination.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the accused in the case are Nasir Uddin, Tuhin Siddique Omi, and Shahidul Alam, all of whom are currently on bail. The case statement reveals that Pori Moni was harassed at the Boat Club on the Turag River in Birulia, adjacent to Dhaka, on June 8, 2021.
On the night of June 13, Pori Moni made a Facebook post detailing that she had been physically assaulted and faced an attempted rape and murder. The post, which included an appeal to the then prime minister for justice, quickly gained traction on social media.
Following the post, Pori Moni held a press conference at her Gulshan residence, reiterating her allegations. She subsequently filed a case with the Savar Model Police Station on the following day, accusing the defendants of attempting to rape and murder her and assaulting her.
On September 6, 2021, investigation officer Inspector Kamal Hossain of Savar Police Station submitted a charge sheet against Nasir and the two others. The court framed charges against the accused on May 18, 2022, and the trial commenced.
Despite beginning her deposition on November 29, 2022, Pori Moni’s testimony has yet to be completed.
