Woman Strangled to Death in Shahjahanpur; Husband Arrested

Dhaka: A housewife was allegedly strangled to death following a family dispute in the capital’s Gulbagh area under Shahjahanpur Police Station on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Swapna Khatun, 25, from Tilatia village in Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh. Her husband, Rubel Mia, is from the Sandia area under Mymensingh Sadar Police Station.

According to United News of Bangladesh, police arrested Rubel in connection with the incident, said SI Md Obaidul of Shahjahanpur Police Station on Sunday night. The police officer stated that Swapna was allegedly strangled to death following a family dispute. A murder case has been filed with Shahjahanpur Police Station in connection with the incident.

Local residents reported that the couple had rented the house in Gulbagh earlier this month. Police recovered Swapna’s body after residents of a nearby flat informed them and subsequently arrested Rubel. Locals mentioned that the couple had an altercation on Saturday night and again on Sunday morning. At one point, Rubel allegedly strangled Swapna, leaving her dead at the scene.

After completing legal procedures, police sent the body to the Dhaka Medical College morgue in the evening for autopsy.
