Dhaka: All five students who appeared for this year’s SSC examinations from AM Rath Bari Girls’ High School in Lalmonirhat’s Kaliganj upazila have failed. The school, which currently employs 11 teachers to educate approximately 200 students, reported a zero percent pass rate, as confirmed by the Upazila Secondary Education Office.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the institution was established by local residents in Madati Union in 1999 to promote female education. It was upgraded to a high school in 2011, and while its junior secondary section was included under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme in 2023, the high school section remains non-MPO. Among the 11 teachers, seven are MPO-enrolled, while four are non-MPO. Additionally, there are four teaching positions that remain vacant. Parents have blamed a decline in the quality of instruction for the poor results.

Jahangir Alam Biplob, the school’s Headmaster and Chairman of Madati Union Parishad, attributed the failure to the high school section’s no
n-MPO status and the teacher shortage. He noted that teachers in the high school section have “lost interest” due to a lack of salaries. Badrul Alam, Kaliganj Upazila Secondary Education Officer, stated that the authorities will investigate the cause of the results and take necessary steps to improve the standard of education at the school.
