Colombo: Sri Lanka’s first locally manufactured amphibious vessel, capable of operating both on land and at sea, was launched for export to Europe at an event held yesterday at the Koggala Free Trade Zone. Manufactured by Ocean Voyager International, the technologically advanced vessel marks a new chapter in Sri Lanka’s marine manufacturing industry.

According to News.LK, the event was attended by Minister of Industry Sunil Handunnetti, who highlighted the Government’s focus on the boat and shipbuilding industry as a key sector for generating significant foreign exchange for Sri Lanka. The country’s strategic location near major international maritime routes is seen as an advantage that could boost this industry quickly.

Minister Handunnetti reiterated the Government’s commitment to providing the necessary facilities and full support to transform Sri Lanka into a regional marine manufacturing hub. This transformation will rely on the contribution of skilled Sri Lankan engineers and workers. He also emphasized that strengthening the domestic production economy and promoting Sri Lankan-manufactured products in international markets remains a key Government priority.

The launch event was also attended by Chairman of the SLYG Group Pierre Pringiers, company management representatives, and officials from the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI), signaling a collaborative effort in advancing Sri Lanka’s marine manufacturing capabilities.
