Colombo: Mr. David Sislen, the Regional Country Director of the World Bank for Nepal, Maldives, and Sri Lanka, recently met with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at her office. The meeting, which took place on the 26th, was a courtesy call where Mr. Sislen engaged in discussions regarding several crucial economic and social issues facing Sri Lanka.

According to News.LK, the discussions primarily focused on the ongoing debt restructuring process in Sri Lanka, a significant concern for the country’s economic stability. Mr. Sislen and the Prime Minister also deliberated on Sri Lanka’s social protection policy, emphasizing the government’s commitment to climate change mitigation and efforts to close the gender pay gap. These topics reflect the government’s strategic priorities in driving sustainable economic growth and ensuring social equity.

The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Mr. Gevorg Sargsyan, Country Manager for Maldives and Sri Lanka at the World Bank, and Mr. Pradeep Saputh
anthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister. Other notable attendees included Mr. Mahinda Gunaratna, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister; Ms. Himali Bogodagedara, Director of the World Bank and IMF Division, Department of External Resources; Mr. Ranjith Gurusinghe, Deputy Director at the Department of External Resources; and Ms. Buddhika Wimalasena, Deputy Director of the Economic Affairs Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their presence underscored the importance of the issues discussed and the collaborative approach needed to address them.
