Colombo: The Defence Cyber Command (DCC), under the Ministry of Defence, successfully conducted the AEGIS LEXICON 2025 – Defence Cyber Exposition at the Ministry premises. This annual event, held on 29 July 2025, marked the Second Anniversary of the Defence Cyber Command, established on 03 August 2023. It underscored Sri Lanka’s increasing emphasis on digital defence and cyber security capabilities.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the necessity for the Defence Cyber Command to evolve into a comprehensive Cyber Force. He stated that the DCC must operate at strategic, operational, and tactical levels to ensure national security in cyberspace, aligning with the Ministry’s broader defence objectives.
This year’s exposition, themed ‘National Security in the Age of AI and Cyber Physical Convergence,’ focused on the urgent need to build resilient cyber defence mechanisms amid rapidly evolving tech
nological threats. Under the direction of Brigadier Dhammika Vidanalage, Director of the Defence Cyber Command, the event highlighted the importance of cyber readiness, inter-agency collaboration, and long-term capacity development to ensure national resilience in cyberspace.
Key presentations included ‘Cyber Threat Landscape in the Age of AI and Quantum Computing’ by Brigadier Dhammika Vidanalage, and ‘Trust Frameworks Underlying Sri Lanka’s Digital Economy Advancement’ by Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya. Other notable presentations were ‘Legal Challenges in Strengthening Sri Lanka’s Cyber Security Framework’ by Dr. Thusitha B. Abeysekara, and ‘Cyber Security Governance and Protection of Critical Infrastructure’ by Mr. Lasantha Priyankara.
A significant highlight was the panel discussion titled ‘Overcoming Cyber Physical Challenges for National Security in Sri Lanka,’ featuring experts from government and the digital sector, including Mr. Waruna Sri Dhanapala and Dr. Aparrajitha Ariyadasa. The DCC technical team, le
d by Colonel Darshana Muthugala, showcased a live demonstration of existing cyber threats, providing participants with insights into Sri Lanka’s current cyber threat landscape.
As Sri Lanka commemorates the Second Anniversary of the Defence Cyber Command, AEGIS LEXICON 2025 reinforced the nation’s strategic commitment to enhancing its cyber capabilities. The event called for continued innovation, legal reform, and strategic preparedness to protect the country’s digital sovereignty. The Defence Cyber Command is committed to leading Sri Lanka’s digital defence efforts, poised to transform into a national level Cyber Force safeguarding national interests in the digital age.
