Ambassador-Designate Shanika Dissanayake Assumes Duties in Bahrain


Colombo: Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Shanika Dissanayake, has officially assumed her duties at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Bahrain on March 16, 2025. In a ceremony held at the embassy, Ambassador-designate Dissanayake addressed the staff, outlining her vision and priorities for her tenure.



According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Sri Lanka, Ambassador-designate Dissanayake emphasized the importance of strengthening the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Bahrain. She highlighted the need to foster economic cooperation, enhance trade and investment opportunities, and expand collaboration in sectors of mutual interest.



The Ambassador-designate also articulated the necessity of adopting a cohesive and forward-thinking approach within the Mission to ensure efficient consular service delivery. She underscored the importance of the well-being of the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain and encouraged her team to collectively work towards bolstering Sri Lanka’s presence in Bahrain while advancing the shared interests of both nations.



With a career in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service, Ambassador-designate Dissanayake brings experience to her new role. She previously served as Additional Secretary for Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka before her assignment in Bahrain.
