Army Chief Reports 3,619 Weapons Looted During Bangladesh’s 2024 Uprising


Dhaka: Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army General Waker-Uz-Zaman disclosed that 3,619 weapons were looted from various police stations across the country during the mass uprising in 2024.



According to United News of Bangladesh, General Waker-Uz-Zaman revealed that 2,259 of these weapons have been successfully recovered, accounting for 62.4 percent of the looted arms. This statement was made during a high-level meeting focused on the law-and-order situation ahead of the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum concerning the July National Charter.



The Army Chief also reported that 456,418 rounds of ammunition were taken during the same period. Of these, 237,100 rounds have been recovered, which constitutes 52 percent of the stolen ammunition, as confirmed by the Chief Adviser’s press wing quoting the Army Chief.



He further explained that the forces are engaging in mutual discussions to implement various steps aimed at alleviating public concerns during the election period. These measures are expected to contribute to a peaceful electoral process for the nation.



The meeting was chaired by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus at the Chief Adviser’s office. It was attended by Advisers Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Lieutenant General (retd.) Abdul Hafiz, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, and the Chiefs of Bangladesh Navy and Air Force.



Following the meeting, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam provided a briefing to reporters at the Foreign Service Academy, accompanied by Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad.
