Bangladesh and Costa Rica Seek to Strengthen Diplomatic and Trade Relations


San jos©: Bangladesh and Costa Rica are taking significant steps to enhance their diplomatic and trade relationships, with Costa Rica expressing support for Bangladesh’s upcoming candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. This initiative marks a concerted effort by both nations to explore potential areas of cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties.



According to United News of Bangladesh, a recent meeting between Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Mexico with concurrent accreditation to Costa Rica, and Arnoldo Andr© Tinoco, Costa Rica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, was characterized as ‘very warm and productive.’ The discussions covered a wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues, including the prospect of visa waivers for diplomatic and official passport holders.



The dialogue also delved into enhancing trade cooperation, with a particular focus on the import of textile and pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh. Both parties expressed a shared understanding of the importance of closer collaboration in international forums. Additionally, during discussions about future UN leadership, Costa Rica sought Bangladesh’s support for the potential candidacy of Rebeca Grynspan, the current Secretary-General of UNCTAD.



The relationship between Bangladesh and Costa Rica is primarily managed through Bangladesh’s embassy in Mexico, with concurrent accreditation to Costa Rica. This diplomatic connection is aimed at fostering cultural ties and facilitating consular services such as visas and emergency assistance. Recent diplomatic engagements underscore a strong commitment by both countries to strengthen their connections, overcoming geographical distances and exploring new avenues for bilateral cooperation.
