Chuadanga: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday sought the intervention of the Army Chief over the alleged killing of Shamsuzzaman Dablu, general secretary of Jibannagar Municipal unit BNP in Chuadanga, by members of the security forces. Fakhrul emphasized that incidents involving killings by security personnel undermine the rule of law in the country.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Fakhrul released a statement expressing his deep shock and sorrow over the incident. He stated that some members of the security forces detained Shamsuzzaman Dablu on Monday night under the pretext of recovering arms and subjected him to inhuman torture, resulting in his death. The BNP leader condemned the act, calling it a gross violation of the country’s existing laws, and highlighted the public’s expectation for judicial punishment of those involved in crimes under the current interim government.
Fakhrul further commented that the detention and subsequent death of Shamsuzzaman Dablu in the name of arms recovery was unacceptable to the country’s people. He urged the Army Chief to intervene in such incidents, which he described as horrifying and tragic. The BNP leader also demanded an immediate and impartial investigation to ensure justice is served.
The death of Shamsuzzaman Dablu has caused unrest in Jibannagar, Chuadanga, where protests have erupted questioning the circumstances of his death. Dablu, who was 50 years old and a resident of Hospitalpara, died around midnight on Monday after being taken into custody during an army operation near the Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex. Family members and BNP leaders have alleged that his death resulted from torture, further fueling anger in the community.
The BNP Secretary General expressed his condolences, praying for Dablu’s departed soul and offering sympathy to his bereaved family members. The incident has sparked significant tension in the region, with calls for accountability and justice.
