BNP Warns Rebel Candidates Ahead of Election Withdrawal Deadline

Dhaka: BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan on Friday expressed hope that the party’s rebel candidates will withdraw from the electoral race before the deadline stipulated in the election schedule, warning that failure to do so would result in organisational action. Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a photo exhibition on the late BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, he emphasized the importance of adhering to party decisions.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Nazrul mentioned that several rebels have already indicated their intention to withdraw, suggesting a potential improvement in the situation within the withdrawal period. He reiterated that the party is prepared to take action against those who do not comply.

The photo exhibition was organized by the ‘Bogura Media and Cultural Society (BMCS)’, comprising journalists and cultural activists from Bogura based in Dhaka. During the event, Nazrul, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, toured the exhibition and praised the organizers for their efforts.

He further highlighted that Khaleda Zia has left a legacy through her son, Tarique Rahman, whom Nazrul described as a prominent political figure. He expressed confidence that Tarique would continue Khaleda Zia’s work and bring positive changes to the country, drawing on the ideals of his father, late President Ziaur Rahman, and his mother.

Nazrul also addressed concerns about maintaining law and order during the election period, particularly in light of the recent killing of a Swechchasebak Dal leader. He urged the government to take proactive measures to ensure a fair election, emphasizing BNP’s readiness to cooperate.

Regarding BNP’s election manifesto, Nazrul informed that a committee is actively working on it and plans to announce it soon. He also touched upon student politics, noting the challenges faced by BNP’s student wing in universities and colleges.

In closing, Nazrul expressed hope that the government would take necessary steps to foster a stable environment conducive to a democratic transition, while BNP continues to focus on its activities and future political strategies.
