Dhaka: Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur: Authorities at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) have assembled a five-member committee to investigate the violent clash that erupted on Monday between members of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir. The altercation, which took place on the university campus, resulted in injuries to at least ten individuals.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the committee was established on Tuesday night. It is headed by Associate Professor Md Masud Rana, who is also the director of the university’s Public Relations Department. The investigation team, while not assigned a specific deadline, has been urged to deliver its findings promptly, said Ferdous Rahman, the university’s acting registrar.

The panel also includes Assistant Proctor Abdullah-Al-Mahbub, Bijoy 24 Hall Provost Amir Sharif, and Associate Professors Tanziul Islam and Harun Al Rashid from the Departments of Political Science and Chemistry, respectively.

The dispute reportedly began over a banner at a Shibir-organized exhibition displaying photographs of individuals convicted of war crimes during the 1971 Liberation War. The confrontation, which started around 7:30 p.m., continued for nearly three hours, involving exchanges of brick chips, chairs, and physical attacks with sticks between the two student groups.

In response to the escalating violence, additional police forces were dispatched to the campus to restore order. The list of injured includes former BRUR unit Shibir President Sohel Rana, current Secretary Imran Khan Saurav, activist Mehedi Hasan, Baizid Shikdar, Mursalin, and JCD leader Ashik.
