Cabinet Committee Approves Import of 35,000 Tonnes of Fertiliser from Russia

Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) has given the green light to a proposal for the import of 35,000 tonnes of Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertiliser from Russia. This decision was reached during a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the approval concerns the third batch of MOP fertiliser, which will be imported from Russia’s state-owned JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg). This import is part of a government-to-government agreement signed with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), aiming to bolster the country’s agricultural input supply.

The Ministry of Agriculture submitted the proposal, estimating the cost of the fertiliser import at Tk 168.29 crore. The agreed price for MOP fertiliser stands at $388.55 per tonne, with a permissible price variation of plus or minus 10 percent.

The CCGP meeting evaluated the proposal, ultimately recommending its approval. This move is part of the government’s ongoing strategy to import fertiliser through direct agreements with other governments, ensuring a steady supply of agricultural inputs and maintaining domestic market stability.
