Cabinet Committee Approves Revised Coal Price Mechanism for Chattogram and Barishal Power Plants

Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) has given its nod to a proposal aimed at revising the coal price mechanism for two significant coal-fired power plants in Bangladesh: the 1,320MW SS Power-I plant located in Chattogram and the 307MW Barishal Electric Power Company Limited (BEPC) plant.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the proposal was submitted by the Power Division and involves SS Power-I Ltd, which operates the coal-based power plant in Banshkhali, Chattogram, and Barishal Electric Power Company Limited. The revised coal price mechanism outlines an estimated fuel payment of approximately Tk 1,44,250 crore for SS Power-I Ltd and around Tk 32,724 crore for BEPCL.

The CCGP’s approval came after a thorough review of the revised coal pricing mechanism applicable to these two power plants. This decision is anticipated to support the continued operation of the plants by establishing a new framework for coal supply costs and associated fuel payments.
