Campaigning for ‘Yes’ in Referendum is a State Obligation: Adviser Nurjahan

Sylhet: Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum on Friday emphasized that campaigning for a ‘Yes’ vote in the forthcoming referendum is a collective responsibility of the state.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Nurjahan Begum made these remarks while addressing journalists following a meeting with district- and divisional-level health officials in Sylhet. She highlighted that citizens need not be concerned with the complexities of the constitution or legislative processes. Instead, the focus should be on conveying how the referendum impacts their daily lives, thereby fostering public support for a ‘Yes’ vote.

Nurjahan also cautioned that those opposed to the elections would likely take actions to thwart the process. She stressed the importance of mobilizing as many people as possible to counteract anti-election forces.

In her earlier discussion with divisional health officials, Nurjahan instructed all Health Department officials to actively campaign for the ‘Yes’ vote. She suggested that NGOs be engaged alongside government offices to bolster the campaign efforts.

On another note, she addressed the delay in the opening of Sylhet District Hospital, attributing it to staff shortages, a problem she assured would be resolved soon.

The meeting was presided over by District Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam and saw the participation of Health and Family Welfare Ministry Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman, along with various health officials from district and divisional levels.
