Elahera:A pilot project aimed at allocating state land to Ranaviru beneficiaries was launched at the Diyabeduma Parakumgama Ranaviru Village in the Elahera Divisional Secretariat Division of Polonnaruwa District. This initiative is part of a broader program across the island to address the housing needs of Ranaviru beneficiaries.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the Deputy Minister of Defence conducted a special inspection visit to the village in June, leading to the development of this project. The program’s primary focus is to formally and efficiently allocate land for residential purposes, with plans to expand to other Ranaviru villages island-wide.
In the initial phase, a mobile service began the process of establishing legal ownership for 191 land plots from a 25-acre area in Elahera No. 26, Diyabeduma Grama Niladhari Division. Of these plots, 21 were allocated to the Sri Lanka Army, 18 to the Sri Lanka Navy, 57 to the Sri Lanka Air Force, 90 to the Sri Lanka Police, and 5 to the Civil Security Department.
Plans are also in place to develop infrastructure, including electricity, water supply, playgrounds, and an electric fence around the Ranaviru villages. The project’s inaugural event was attended by various government and military officials, alongside many Ranaviru beneficiaries and their families.
