Dhaka: FIFA has opened an investigation into the scuffle involving players and coaching staff from Spain and Argentina after Sunday’s World Cup final. The governing body said it has appointed an investigator under Article 36 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code after reviewing the referee’s report.

According to United News of Bangladesh, FIFA stated, “Following an assessment of the match report from the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, disciplinary proceedings have been opened.” The disciplinary committee will determine the next steps after receiving the investigator’s report.

Spain emerged victorious over Argentina to claim the World Cup, but the post-match celebrations were marred by a confrontation involving players from both teams and members of Argentina’s coaching staff. Videos circulating on social media depicted Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes in an altercation with Spain defender Eric Garcia, which escalated when Paredes appeared to punch Garcia, leading to a melee.
