Dhaka: The Ministry of Labour and Employment has approved a budget of Tk 68.50 crore for the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation for the fiscal year 2027. This decision, made on Sunday, also included the allocation of financial grants totaling Tk 12.98 crore to support 2,199 workers and their families from both the formal and informal sectors.

According to United News of Bangladesh, these decisions were finalized during the 34th board meeting of the Foundation, which took place in the conference room of the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The meeting was presided over by Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury. During the meeting, Minister Choudhury emphasized the government’s commitment to the welfare of the working class, highlighting the importance of supporting workers during times of crisis and enhancing the social safety net.

The Minister acknowledged the relentless efforts of workers from both sectors, attributing the continuous movement of the national economy and production systems to their hard work. He stated that the country’s development is being propelled forward by the dedication and effort of these workers.

Minister Choudhury further assured that the goal is to ensure no worker feels isolated in times of need. He reiterated the Ministry and Foundation’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and security of workers, aiming to create a balanced, work-friendly, and exploitation-free labour environment through the collaboration of government officials, employers, and workers’ organizations.

The meeting was attended by Labour and Employment Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarafder, Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation Director General Mohammad Kuddus Ali Sarker, Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain, along with representatives from various ministries and key stakeholders from both workers’ and employers’ associations.
