Govt Announces Tk 2 Crore Support for Hadi’s Family

Dhaka: The government has decided to provide Tk 2 crore in financial assistance to the family of Inqilab Moncho leader Sharif Osman Hadi. The aid includes Tk 1 crore for purchasing a flat in Dhaka and another Tk 1 crore for livelihood support.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed disclosed the decision while speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase at the Secretariat. He explained that one crore taka will be given from the Ministry of Finance for purchasing a flat or house, noting that the entire amount may not be required. An additional one crore taka is being provided from the Chief Adviser’s Office for the family’s livelihood.

When questioned about the additional benefits to Hadi’s family, given that Hadi’s brother was previously appointed to a diplomatic post in the United Kingdom, Dr Salehuddin declined to comment, advising that such questions should not be directed to him. He confirmed that the Ministry of Finance has already approved the Tk 1 crore allocation for housing purposes.

In a separate matter, Dr Salehuddin chose not to respond to a recent claim by the Commerce Adviser that rice prices have increased by Tk 20 per kg due to the Padma Bridge. He stated, “I do not think anything (regarding this claim).”

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot in the head by assailants during an election campaign event in Dhaka’s Purana Paltan area on December 12. After initial treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Evercare Hospital, he was transferred to Singapore for advanced medical care on December 15, where he died on December 18.
