ICRC Head of Delegation Engages with Sri Lankan Deputy Defence Minister on Humanitarian Cooperation


Colombo: Ms. Séverine Chappaz, Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Sri Lanka, engaged in a meeting with Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) in Colombo. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in areas such as community welfare initiatives, ongoing humanitarian projects, and disaster management assistance.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the Deputy Minister acknowledged ICRC’s significant role in advocating human rights within the country. He expressed the government’s dedication to fostering a robust partnership with the organization. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister emphasized the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to incorporating International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in military training programs and highlighted the readiness to engage in international training courses and exercises.
