Dhaka: President of the Editors’ Council Nurul Kabir on Friday highlighted the remarkable attributes of former Prime Minister and ex-BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, emphasizing her grace, decency, restraint, and self-respect in the political sphere of Bangladesh. Speaking at a citizens’ condolence meeting at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Kabir reflected on her contributions and character.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Nurul Kabir praised Khaleda Zia for setting a unique example in Bangladeshi politics through her refined conduct and moderation. He acknowledged that although he was not directly involved with BNP’s political strategies, he supported the party’s democratic ideals, which Khaleda Zia embodied.
Kabir also highlighted Khaleda Zia’s remarkable restraint amidst personal challenges, noting that despite facing oppression and persecution, she never resorted to condemnation. He recalled her courage on the night of March 25, 1971, when she intervened to prevent a Pakistani Subedar Major from attacking Bengali officers, an act that potentially saved many lives and influenced crucial events during the war.
In his address to BNP leaders and activists, Kabir urged them to uphold Khaleda Zia’s ideals and continue their democratic journey. He warned against actions that could tarnish her legacy and encouraged the BNP to actively contribute to building a democratic Bangladesh.
