Madrasah Student’s Death Sparks Protest in Tongi

Gazipur: Students of a madrasah blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on Sunday, protesting the death of a fellow student in the Gazipura area of Tongi.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Yeasin Ali, a 17-year-old class IX student of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasah, tragically died on Saturday evening. The accident occurred when a covered van struck him as he was crossing the road. Yeasin was the son of Ripon Mia from Sujanagar upazila in Pabna district, and he resided in Gazipur’s Kazipara area with his parents.

In the wake of Yeasin’s death, students from his madrasah organized demonstrations at the Gazipur Bus Stand area and at the main gate of the madrasah around 11 a.m. They blocked the roads, bringing vehicular movement on the busy highway to a halt and causing considerable inconvenience to commuters.

Mehedi Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Tongi East Police Station, stated that police efforts were underway to try and bring the situation under control.
