Kushtia: A man in Kushtia’s Khoksa upazila took an unprecedented step on Thursday by handing over his teenage son to the police. The boy, accused of raping a five-year-old girl, was taken into custody after his father brought him to the Khoksa Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Molla Zakir confirmed the arrest, stating that the father tracked down his son following the incident.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the alleged rape occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Bosoa village under Shimulia union. After the incident, the young girl became seriously ill and was initially treated at Khoksa Upazila Health Complex. Her condition necessitated further care, leading to her transfer to Kushtia General Hospital for advanced treatment.
The victim’s family reported that the girl was playing near their home while her parents were engaged in washing jute in a nearby wetland. The accused, a Class-VIII madrasah student, allegedly lured the child away under the pretense of taking her to her parents, before allegedly assaulting her in a nearby field. The child returned home and informed her parents of the incident.
The accused’s father, who serves as a village police member, said he was informed of the allegations on Wednesday evening. Immediately, he began searching for his son, who had fled. He eventually located the boy at his maternal grandmother’s house in Pangsha and surrendered him to the police on Thursday morning. “My son has committed a wrongdoing. That’s why I handed him over to the police,” the father stated.
