Dhaka: Milestone School and College on Tuesday paid tribute to the victims of last year’s Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crash, marking the first anniversary of the tragedy with solemn remembrance, prayers, and commemorative events at its Diabari campus.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the institution observed the day with a two-session program to honor those killed in the crash that struck the school’s Haider Ali Academic Building during a routine training flight on July 21, 2025. The incident claimed the lives of 37 individuals, including BAF pilot Flight Lieutenant Towkir Islam Sagar. Among the victims were 28 students, three teachers, three guardians, and one nurse.

The day’s observance began at 10:00 am with floral tributes at a memorial erected in front of the Haider Ali Academic Building, where the aircraft crashed, according to a press release. Teachers, students, parents, and members of BNCC, Rover Scouts, and Girls Guides paid their respects, observed a one-minute silence, and joined prayers seeking eternal peace for those who lost their lives.

Milestone College founder and Adviser Colonel (retd) Nurun Nabi, Principal Mohammad Ziaul Alam, Vice Principal (Administration) Md Masud Alam, Milestone Preparatory KG School Executive Principal Rifat Alam, and Milestone School Diabari Campus Principal Captain (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Khan were present at the event.

The second phase of the program began at 3:00 pm at the main seminar hall of the Diabari campus. It featured a discussion, recollections by family members of the victims, and a prayer session. Speakers paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedy, while family members of the victims and survivors shared their memories of the incident.

The program concluded with special prayers for the departed souls and for the speedy recovery and well-being of those injured in the crash.
