Mirza Abbas Criticizes Provocative Campaigning Violating Electoral Code

Dhaka: BNP senior leader Mirza Abbas on Wednesday alleged that some candidates are making provocative remarks during the mass campaign, which he termed as a violation of the electoral code of conduct. “Some candidates are making provocative remarks. Their behaviour and comments are extremely provocative. They are violating the Election Commission’s code of conduct by speaking against other candidates,” he said.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Abbas, while speaking to journalists near China Town Market in the Nayapaltan area, expressed concern over the offensive and absurd comments made by some candidates against their rivals, including himself. He accused them of deliberately making such remarks to provoke his camp. As a BNP Standing Committee member, Abbas has urged the Election Commission to address the issue and implement measures to curb these violations.

Abbas emphasized his commitment to a peaceful and fair election process and expressed his willingness to respond to provocative remarks if nec
essary. He noted that he has yet to begin formal campaigning and is currently engaging with locals in the area. Despite some candidates initiating full campaigns, Abbas intends to start his official campaign once the designated period begins.

Addressing concerns about postal ballot papers, Abbas highlighted the confusion surrounding their design, which he fears could lead to issues during the stamping process. He called on the Election Commission to rectify these issues to ensure fairness.

In response to inflammatory rhetoric from an opposing candidate about sending bulldozers towards Shahjahanpur, Abbas condemned such statements for inciting mob behaviour. He stressed that mob rule is unacceptable and warned of consequences for those who attempt it.

Abbas questioned the motivations behind the provocative remarks directed at him, asserting that there is no justification for aggression towards Shahjahanpur as he has committed no offense by contesting the election. He pointed out his extensive experience, ha
ving represented the constituency multiple times, and dismissed the comments as weak attempts by less competitive candidates.

Expressing his concern over the current law-and-order situation, Abbas referenced the recent killing of a BNP activist and an attack on another. He urged his constituents to remain calm and not be swayed by inflammatory tactics aimed at garnering quick popularity.
