Muktijoddha Sangsad Endorses ‘Yes’ Vote in Upcoming Referendum

Bangladesh: Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council on Tuesday urged citizens to cast a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming referendum, saying it is crucial for safeguarding democracy, justice, and the country’s future. The call came at a press conference where a written statement was read out by freedom fighter Naim Jahangir, convener of the Central Command Council.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Naim Jahangir highlighted that the July 2024 student-public uprising marked the beginning of a new journey for Bangladesh, proving once again that people are the main driving force of history. He expressed that this mass uprising will remove all past obstacles and ensure the ownership of the state by its people. Referring to the scheduled referendum on February 12, 2026, followed by the 13th national parliamentary election, Jahangir emphasized the need for active participation in both democratic exercises.

He described the July Charter 2025 as a significant milestone, formulated to ensure rights, justice, democracy, and the security of future generations while preventing the resurgence of fascism. The core objective of the July Charter is to protect national sovereignty, ensure public welfare, and build a prosperous, stable, and democratic constitutional Bangladesh. Implementation of the July Charter will help realize the fundamental goals of the Liberation War.

Jahangir stressed the importance of the referendum, stating that voting ‘Yes’ is essential to uphold and protect the spirit of the July Charter. A ‘Yes’ vote signifies standing for justice, moving forward on the path of development, and uniting the country through democratic means.

The Muktijoddha Sangsad expressed hope that both the referendum and the parliamentary election would occur in a peaceful, spontaneous, and festive atmosphere. The democratic process should transform into a people’s festival where citizens exercise their voting rights with joy, harmony, and responsibility.

Calling for unity beyond party lines, Jahangir urged all citizens to support the July Charter and fulfill their civic duty by voting ‘Yes’. He stated that the spirit of the Liberation War and the people’s uprising flows in the blood of the people of Bangladesh, asserting that the nation will never be defeated.

He concluded by requesting journalists to disseminate the organization’s message to the nation through their respective media outlets.
