Colombo: His Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Sri Lanka, Mr. Wiebe de Boer, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), at his office in Colombo. The meeting focused on shared interests and explored ways to deepen the longstanding bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, Major General Aruna Jayasekara expressed gratitude on behalf of the President and the people of Sri Lanka for the support provided by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in coordination with the European Union, during and after Sri Lanka’s recent disaster situation. He also acknowledged the Netherlands’ assistance in the ‘Design and Construction of Rural Bridges Project’, which aims to enhance rural connectivity and improve quality of life across the island.
The Ambassador praised Sri Lanka’s recovery progress following recent calamities and reaffirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to shar
ing expertise, particularly in disaster risk reduction, aligning with Sri Lanka’s development priorities.
Both parties expressed dedication to maintaining close relations and confidence in the continued growth of their cooperative partnership.
