Dhaka: State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Hoque Nur emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and an uncompromising stance against the Awami League, which is currently under an activities ban. Addressing a discussion in the city, Nur declared the necessity of staying united and firm regarding the so-called Awami mafia group, regardless of potential changes in government.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Nur cautioned against potential conspiracies involving the Jamaat-NCP alliance and other forces. He highlighted the possibility of a ‘bad neighbouring country’ and ‘evil foreign forces’ attempting to incite a civil or military coup in Bangladesh. Without directly naming any country, Nur alluded to India’s past actions, specifically referencing the Janatar Mancha platform formed within the administration against the BNP government in 1996, urging vigilance against being misled into anti-national agendas.

Nur criticized the current government led by Sheikh Hasina for alleged misrules, including financial misconduct and repression. He accused a neighboring country, implicitly pointing to India, of providing refuge to Sheikh Hasina and using her to incite unrest. He strongly opposed the rehabilitation of the Awami League in Bangladesh’s politics, labeling them a ‘Mafia group’ that should not be allowed to regain power.

During the discussion, speakers also called for the immediate implementation of the 9th national pay scale. The event, organized by the Government Officers and Employees Welfare Association following its 2026 council at the National Press Club, concluded with the announcement of a newly elected 101-member central committee for the association.
