Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman departed from Dhaka on Sunday morning, heading towards Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar by helicopter to oversee the development of the Matarbari deep-sea port and coal-fired power project, and to evaluate ongoing development initiatives.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary, Atikur Rahman Rumon, confirmed the departure from Tejgaon Airport at approximately 9:15 a.m. The visit includes a comprehensive inspection of the Matarbari facilities and the operations of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority.

During his itinerary, Tarique Rahman will also travel to Banshkhali and Hathazari upazilas in Chattogram to meet with flood-affected residents and participate in rehabilitation programs aimed at providing new homes for the victims. He is accompanied by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit.

The schedule outlines that the Prime Minister will reach the Matarbari site around 10:30 a.m., followed by attendance at a rehabilitation program for flood victims at West Banshkhali High School and College ground in Baharchhara union at 12:20 p.m.

Later in the day, he is set to visit Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagar Madrasah in Fatikchhari at 2 p.m., where he will meet Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari, and subsequently visit Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Moinul Islam in Hathazari at 3:15 p.m. to pay tribute at the grave of late Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi.

Following a brief rest at Hathazari Dak Bungalow at 3:45 p.m., Rahman will engage in another flood rehabilitation initiative at Hathazari Government College ground at 5 p.m. The day will conclude with an organisational meeting at Radisson Blu Chattogram at 7:15 p.m.

The Prime Minister’s journey involves travel by helicopter from Dhaka to Maheshkhali, and road travel from Fatikchhari to Chattogram. His return to Dhaka is scheduled via air from Shah Amanat International Airport at around 9:30 p.m. Notably, this trip marks his inaugural visit to Maheshkhali, Fatikchhari, and Hathazari since assuming office.
