Fatikchhari: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday called upon Islamic scholars, known as alem-ulema, to collaborate with the government and maintain unity to preserve peace and stability in the face of efforts to destabilize the nation. Addressing a views-exchange meeting at Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagar Madrasha in Fatikchhari upazila, he emphasized the importance of their support amid the political challenges posed by BNP’s opponents in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister recalled past instances of political disorder in 1991 and 1996, highlighting the crucial role played by Islamic scholars in countering efforts to mislead the nation. He urged the scholars to continue their partnership with the government to ensure the country’s progress and stability.

Prime Minister Rahman expressed gratitude for the prayers of Allama Shah Muhibullah and encouraged continued unity among the scholars to tackle the challenges ahead. Addressing the concerns raised by Qawmi madrasha representatives, he noted that Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed had already clarified some issues, with the government planning a gradual resolution.

Highlighting the need for harmonious coexistence, the Prime Minister stressed that people of all faiths should be able to practice their religions peacefully. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Islam and the nation, emphasizing the government’s duty to improve the quality of life for all citizens.

During his visit to the madrasha, Tarique Rahman paid respects to Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari and sought his prayers. He underscored the government’s focus on creating employment, enhancing healthcare and education, and improving infrastructure, noting that peace and stability are vital for attracting both domestic and foreign investment.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed also addressed the meeting, while Hefazat-e-Islam Secretary General Sajidur Rahman presented seven demands during the Prime Minister’s visit. The discussions concluded with a call for unity and vigilance against any attempts to disrupt the nation’s progress.
