Prime Minister’s Thai Pongal Message Emphasizes Nature’s Bond and National Unity

Colombo: Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has extended her heartfelt greetings to the Tamil communities in Sri Lanka and around the world as they celebrate the Thai Pongal festival. This traditional festivity is recognized for expressing gratitude towards the dignity of labor and the protection provided by nature, highlighting the deep connection between human life and the natural world.

According to News.LK, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of respecting and showing gratitude for nature’s blessings, which she described as one of the highest human virtues. She emphasized that, as a nation, Sri Lanka is at a crucial turning point, bearing the collective responsibility of steering the country towards a ‘new era of revival’ through policy and structural reforms.

The Prime Minister likened the commitment to Sri Lanka’s future prosperity to the saying, ‘We can place rice on our plate only if the farmer steps into the mud,’ illustrating the need for preparation and hard work in anticipation of a bountiful harvest. She highlighted the Thai Pongal festival as a guiding light in nurturing citizens with enriched cultural values.

Concluding her message, Dr. Amarasuriya called for unity on Thai Pongal Day, urging all to resolve to build a new Sri Lanka that upholds harmony, mutual respect, and the protection of religious and cultural rights. She expressed her sincere wishes that the hopes and aspirations of the Tamil people celebrating Thai Pongal be fulfilled, bringing happiness and prosperity to all.
