Colombo: Sri Lanka Greens blazed their way to the 2025 Sri Lanka Cricket T20 League Championship title by securing a 23-run victory over SLC Greys in the final match held at the Sinhalese Sports Club Grounds. The Greens posted a formidable total of 189 for 4 wickets in their allotted 20 overs after being put into bat, subsequently restricting their opponents to 166 for 8 in 20 overs. The highlight of the match was opening batsman Kusal Mendis, who played a pivotal role with a 47-ball 77, earning the Player of the Match accolade.
According to Sri Lanka Cricket, Mendis overcame the early setback of Kamil Mishara’s run out on the first ball by forming a 56-run partnership with Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who scored 18 off 15 balls. Mendis’s aggressive innings, featuring five sixes and five boundaries, helped propel the Greens to a commanding position, reaching 111 for 3 when he was dismissed in the 13th over. Sadeera Samarawickrama and captain Kamindu Mendis then took charge, delivering unbeaten scores of 49 and 42, res
pectively, to add an additional 78 runs for the fifth wicket.
SLC Greys captain Charith Asalanka’s decision to bowl first on a batting-friendly pitch backfired. Despite a strong opening partnership between Niroshan Dickwella, who scored 50 off 28 balls, and Dinesh Chandimal, who made 36 off 21 balls, the Greys faltered in their chase. Asalanka contributed 21 runs, but they were unable to capitalize on the solid start, with the rest of the batting lineup failing to make significant contributions.
The disciplined bowling performance from Sri Lanka Greens, led by Chamika Karunaratne with 3 wickets for 24 runs, Dushmantha Chameera with 2 for 26, and Kamindu Mendis with 2 for 25, ensured their victory. Kamindu Mendis’s all-round performance capped off a successful campaign for the Greens, securing the short format title with their comprehensive win.
