Abu Dhabi: Sri Lanka A maintained strong control in the Unofficial Youth Test match against Afghanistan A, with the latter struggling at 71/3 while chasing a formidable target of 544 runs for victory at Al Zayed Cricket Stadium.
According to Sri Lanka Cricket, the foundation for Sri Lanka’s dominance was laid in the first innings, where they posted a total of 406, thanks to a crucial unbeaten 100 by Sonal Dinusha. Afghanistan A faltered in response, being bowled out for 168. Isith Wijesundera was instrumental in dismantling Afghanistan’s batting line-up, claiming six wickets for 35 runs, complemented by Thatindu Rathnayake’s three wickets for 26 runs.
In their second innings, Sri Lanka A further strengthened their position, declaring at 376 for 4. The innings featured unbeaten centuries from skipper Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who scored 104, and Lahiru Udara, who contributed 107, setting a challenging target for Afghanistan A to pursue.
Afghanistan A faced difficulties in their chase, losing three wickets for just 73 runs. Their skipper, Darwish Rasooli, remained a key hope with an unbeaten 40, while Afsar Zasai supported with 13 runs. Sri Lanka A’s bowlers struck effectively, with Asith Wijesundera taking two wickets for 25 runs and Wanuja Sahan grabbing one wicket for 30 runs.
