Dhaka: The government on Wednesday announced that a technical fault at one of the country’s Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) has disrupted gas supply to the national grid. This has resulted in a reduction of around 450 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) in daily gas supply, impacting industries, power plants, and compressed natural gas (CNG) stations.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division issued a statement indicating that gas regasification from the affected FSRU has been suspended due to the technical problem. Consequently, gas pressure has decreased in several regions, causing interruptions in industrial production, electricity generation, and CNG refuelling operations.

In certain areas, CNG stations have been unable to receive the necessary volume of gas, leading to long queues and inconvenience for the public. Engineers and technical experts are prioritizing efforts to restore normal operations at the FSRU and resume gas supply as swiftly as possible.

The division stated that it is closely monitoring the gas supply situation and expressed optimism that the supply condition would improve once the technical issue at the FSRU is resolved. Additionally, it apologized to consumers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
